Plymouth-Canton Chapter 528 Vietnam Veterans of America
A Successful 2009 for CRUZ'N 528 Car Show Provides
Donations for Veteran's and Veteran's Organizations
It's hard to believe that the time from May to September has passed us by and the CRUZ'N season for 2009 is wrapping up. Vacations are over, the Gratiot, Michigan and Woodard cruises are just a memory, the kids are back in school, days are getting shorter and we'll be putting our rides away until next summer. The 6th season for CRUZ'N 528 Wednesday Night Car Shows was a huge success in 2009, along with some great looking cars in attendance. Our biggest night saw 140 rides, with an average of 85 cruisers each Wednesday. The cruisers enjoyed the camaraderie, bench racing, tall tales and the participation plaque that was awarded to one cruiser each Wednesday from all the registered cars; there were fabulous door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, along with several extra prizes given away each week, which were supplied by our sponsors, like T-shirts & Hats, goodie bags loaded with products from MeguiarÕs, Stoner, Belle Tire and more.
To all of our sponsors who supported us with some great products: Bell Tire, Meguiar's Car Care Products, Summit Racing Equipment, Quick Lane Car Care Centers, Stoner Car Care Products, Mother's, Eastern Market of Canton, Ken Basman with Mustang T-shirts and Hats; Hosted by the Mayflower Lt. Gamble VFW Post 6695 and Sponsored by the Plymouth-Canton Chapter 528 Vietnam Veterans of America.
A job well done to all the VVA and VFW Volunteers who helped with: Show Setup, Registration, Cooking, Cashier, 50/50 Raffle, Door Prizes, Show Photos, the Radio Coverage from WPON 1460 AM and many other jobs:

Lynn Dery collects "Cell Phones for the Troops". Each used cell phone that is recycled is worth 60 minutes of talk time for a service member in Iraq or Afghanistan to call home. Lynn has been collecting used cell phones since June of 2008 at all VVA Chapter 528 events and has collected 700 cell phones to date. ThatÕs 42,000 minutes of talk time. "Plymouth-Canton Chapter 528 is an amazing group of veteransÓ, says Lynn.
Since 2004, CRUZ'N 528 has distributed over $15,500 to needy Veterans and Veteran's Organizations such as VA Hospital Ann Arbor, the Ambulatory and Burn Center for the Intrepid, San Antonio, TX, purchased tickets for WWII veterans to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, and in 2008 purchased, packed, and mailed 92 packages with special need items to our troops in Iraq. The profits from CRUZ'N 528 for 2009 will be used to support local veterans, who need help to pay bills, provide house maintenance (inside or outside), prescriptions, transportation needs and other items.
Plymouth-Canton Chapter 528, Vietnam Veterans of America and CRUZ'N 528 would like to thank all those who participated, sponsored, helped or just perused the show, and the cruisers who supported us through the rain, heat and cool weather. Without you guys and gals CRUZ'N 528 Car Show wouldnÕt be here. The greatest bunch of people you ever want to meet, who are certifiably car crazy. The committee members for CRUZ'N 528 Car Show have started planning for the summer of 2010. WE'LL BE BACK. You can bet your GTO, STANG, or DUSTER on that or maybe the wife and kids if youÕre having a bad day.
