VVA Chapter 528 has long been a partner with Wayne County Parks and Recreation to help provide this wonderful experience for the children of Wayne County. We help out with providing the money and man power to orchestrate such an event. We never have to ask for volunteers. Our members love watching the children catching maybe their first fish of their lives. Prizes are given out for three age groups. Chapter 528 buys the fishing poles, tackle boxes, and other appropriate items. One of our own members, Dave Reeves, takes the largest fish caught and mounts the fish for the winner.
The fishing derby was held at Waterbend Park in Hines Park on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Co-Chairs Tom Brown, Bill Boudreau, and Dean Bell would like to thank the following members of Chapter 528 for helping out with weighing and measuring fish, supervising a casting contest, making Dog Tags, and letting kids and parents know what was the hot bait: Gary "Bear" Kubik, Dale Luebke, Vaughn Hull, Al Kerbyson, Ron and Aggie Little, Jerry & Judy Thomason, Ron Wroblewski, Dave Reeves, Bill Browning, Frank Gilbo, Debby Bradley, and Jim Austin. Kids 12 and under were able to fish for trout between 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM for free and without needing a fishing license. Prizes for largest and smallest trout, heaviest and lightest trout in three separate age groups were given by Wayne County Park Services and VVA Chapter 528 Plymouth/Canton, MI.

Grand Prize Winner Kyle Arzoobyan 1 lb. 15 oz. Ch. 528 Member and taxidermist Dave Reeves has volunteered to mount the winning fish.
