The following is copied off of an article in The Canton Observer & Eccentric Newspaper: "Some 200 youngsters competed in the 15th annual fishing derby sponsored by the Wayne County Parks department and the Vietnam Veterans of America Plymouth/Canton Chapter 528 and chaired by Tom Brown, Bill Boudreau, Dean Bell, and "Bear". Along with many prizes for each age group, the biggest fish - caught by Ethan Elsey - was mounted by Dave Reeves, commander of VFW Post 6695 in Plymouth. Scott Maher represented Wayne County Parks. Ethan and his family said they will be back next year. (Big catch)" Thank you "Bear" for letting me know about this article and photo!
VVA Chapter 528 has long been a partner with Wayne County Parks and Recreation to help provide this wonderful experience for the children 12 and under of Wayne County. We help out with providing the money and man power to orchestrate such an event. Prizes are given out for three age groups. Chapter 528 buys fishing poles, tackle boxes, and other appropriate items. One of our own members, Dave Reeves, takes the largest fish caught and mounts the fish for the winner.
This year our 2010 Fishing Derby took place on Saturday, May 15, 2010. The following members helped out: Gene Spurgess, "Bear", Dale Luebke, Bill Browning, Frank Gilbo, Jan Spittler, Ricco Ciaramitaro, Bill Gravett, Al Kerbyson, Ron & Aggie Little, Debby Bradley, Doug Fox, Vaughn Hull, Tom Brown, and Bill Boudreau.
