Vietnam Discussion at Plymouth Library October 28, 2009

The Plymouth Library in recognition of Veterans Day (November 11) and as an introduction to our "Vietnam Perspectives" Series of History Programs is having six members from VVA 528 present their individual story concerning the Vietnam War. Many of our Members will be presenting information. Presenter: Don Dignan, 1967-1968, U.S. Army, Infantry; Gary Kubik, 1967-1971, U.S. Navy, Submarine; Bob Paul, 1962-1966, U.S. Marine Corps, Air Wing; Rick Popa, 1969-1971, U.S. Army, Military Police; Dennis Shrewsbury, 1961-1965, U.S. Coast Guard; and Rich Whipple, 1967-1969, U.S. Army, Airborne and Cavalry. Gentlemen, this should be a blast event. See Flyer. The proceeds all go to good Veterans help organizations to help them keep up their work, one of which is our Operation Never Forgotten (www.operationneverforgotten.org). If you like Rock & Roll, this will be fun. I attended one they had last year on a smaller scale. The music was very good and many folks dressed in period clothes. John Fleming is once again organizing our Annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing. It will be at four locations. The main location is at Hiller's Market (Five Mile & Haggerty Rd.) 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.. John also has three other places where we can help. Plymouth Post Office on (Pennimen Street) 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.. Krogers - (Ann Arbor & Sheldon Roads) - 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.. K-Mart (Ann Arbor & Haggerty Roads) - 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.. The VVA Christmas Party (Dinner/Dance) will take place at the VFW Hall on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. There is n charge for VVA, AVVA, VFW, and Men's Auxiliary Members. There is no charge for the spouse (of guest) of any VFW member over 70. Children 12 and under will also be free. Spouses or guests that are not members will be charged $6.00. Appetizers and desserts to share will be welcomed, but not required. (If you choose to bring an appetizer, please have it at the hall before 6:00 p.m.). If you have a gift basket or something special you'd like to donate for the door prize raffle, please contact Judy Thomason. Please bring canned goods which will be donated to local charities. Even though the cost is free for members, please be sure to RSVP to Judy Thomason (734) 545-0184 before December 5th, if you are planning on attending as a count is needed for the caterer. A catered dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Take a look at the Flyer. We need volunteers to help out.

The House of Representatives and the Senate voted to designate March 30th (March 28 in 2010 - Sunday) to be Vietnam Veteran's Day.
