Our Color Guard divides up into two different groups so that we can be at two different Veteran Day Ceremony Services - one ceremony in Plymouth, MI and the other in Canton, MI.

VVA Chapter 528 had a busy week visiting and taking part in many Veterans Day activities throughout our area. On Tuesday November 11th we visited the Plymouth Inn and Brighton Gardens. We took part in Services at Village of Redford and the Plymouth Park Apartments on Wednesday. On Thursday "Veterans Day" we first went to Achieve Charter Academy. Then we divided so we could take part at Plymouth Memorial Park and Canton Memorial which took place at 11:00 a.m.. We ended our day with helping out at the Village of Westland. The follwing article was from the Plymouth Observer: "When the Plymouth Community Memorial Veteran's Park was dedicated July 4, 2006, in front of Central Middle School, it not only was to become a place where veterans would be remembered for the sacrifices they made, but for future generations to gather and learn about those who served so they would have a better world. That point was very evident during Tuesday's Veterans Day ceremonies, where a significant portion of the nearly 200 people who attended were students from Plymouth-Canton middle schools. Students from Central led the Pledge of Allegiance and the seventh-grade band led the singing of The Star Spangled Banner. 'It was a really cool experience seeing people getting emotional and how it hit home with them,' said Abby Madison, 13, of Plymouth Township, who attended the remembrance with her sixth-grade class from West Middle School. 'When you think of the war, you really don't think about the veterans, you think about people fighting in our war now. You don't think about the people who came home and how they feel. It really reminded me that we need to be thankful.' The commander of American Legion Post 112, Steve Monaghan of Plymouth Township, said it was inspiring to see the students among the many veterans. 'All the gentlemen and women you see around you who are wearing caps or a uniform today provide a wonderful freedom for you, it's one we don't ask a great deal in return,' Monaghan said. 'A simple thank you, a nod, a wink, a handshake is all that any of us has ever asked to put on the uniform of this country.'"
